SAN LORENZO, CA — Start tapping those toes now for “Swing Into Spring,” the second annual swing dance benefit for Lorenzo Theater Foundation, to be held on Saturday, May 22, 2004, 7 pm to midnight.

Through the generosity of Mather Aviation, the event will have a unique 1940s ambiance: it will be held in one of Mather’s airplane hangars at the Hayward Airport, 19990 Skywest Drive, Hayward.

Swing dancing is sweeping the country: the popular dances of decades ago are back in vogue. With vintage planes, cars, and other memorabilia on display, hors d'oeuvres, a no-host bar, and live music from the 1940s by Don Victor’s Blast From the Past, a 16-piece swing orchestra, “Swing Into Spring” is planned as a great evening for couples, singles, and groups of friends to get out and dance the night away. For those who’d like to participate but don’t know how to swing dance, representatives from Arthur Murray Studios will offer introductory lessons from 7-8 p.m.

“Swing Into Spring is such a fun and exciting evening,” said Nancy Shelvy, president of the board of the Lorenzo Theater Foundation. “Last year it was so successful and generated so much interest that we decided to make it an annual event. Seeing hundreds of people out on the dance floor in support of saving the Lorenzo Theater is thrilling!”

“Swing Into Spring” is a fundraising benefit for the Lorenzo Theater Foundation, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and restoring the historic Lorenzo Theater in San Lorenzo. The Lorenzo Theater, built in 1947, is an Art Deco gem which has sadly fallen into disrepair since it closed its doors in 1982. Due to the efforts of the Lorenzo Theater Foundation, the Theater was named a California Historic Resource in 2001. In September of 2002 the Lorenzo was designated an Historical Preservation (HP) District by the Alameda County Board of Supervisors.

“Swing Into Spring” is generously sponsored by local businesses including ANG Newspapers, David D. Bohannon Organization, The Village Realtors, Wells Fargo Bank, Arroyo Veterinary Clinic, and Hesperian Cleaners.

About Don Victor’s Blast From the Past
The Blast from the Past was created about 30 years ago when a group of wannabe musicians got together at a school in Hayward with a handful of musical arrangements of the 1940s era. The original philosophy of the musicians, which remains today, was to continue with their musical interests in the big band genre and to enjoy each other’s musical company. Over the years the band has developed a base of fans and dancers who look forward to swinging to their music. Don Victor and Blast From the Past can be reached at (707) 537-9568.
