Jonah In Jeopardy

This is a long shot…but any info would be appreciated.

In 1981, Quintet Productions put out a Book and Sing A Long tape called “Jonah in Jeopardy”. My parents purchased a copy while we were attending a Marionette play at the Promised Valley Playhouse.

My father went to a lot of work to make a puppet theater, and my mom made puppets and we put on a puppet show for family and friends that went a long with the tape. (It has really cute songs by Ron Simpson and Clive Romney, Pictures by Pat Hoggan, Story told by Barbara Slaymaker and Marian Garnder, Marionettes for live production by Lynn Anne Richards).

Anyways, I have inherited the theater, the puppets, and the book. Somehow along the way the tape disappeared. I am looking for a way to get a hold of a copy, additional works, etc. I am pretty sure it was a Utah based company… but could be wrong.

Any help or ideas where to look would be appreciated.

Thanks, Kim

Kim — both Ron Simpson and Clive Romney are active in Utah music circles. Simpson works at Brigham Young University, where he supervises a new BYU-sponsored recording label. Romney is one of the founders of a popular local music group called Enoch Train. Either one of them could probably help you locate a copy of the “Jonah in Jeopardy” tape. — Ivan Lincoln (Deseret Morning News drama critic & theater editor)

Kim-That is very interesting, reading your story I could have just signed my name to the end. My parents attended the same production, purchased the same book and tape, built the theater and puppets and we performed it a few times. About 2 years ago, I inherited the theater and puppets and book, missing the tape. I did look up Ron Simpson and called his wife, she thought she would be able to help, but never called me back, then I forgot to continue pursuing. My mom just recently found the tape. I wouldn’t know where to find another copy, but since you already have the book, I don’t think its against copyright laws to copy the one I do have. Let me know if you are still looking for it. My name is Carrie and I live in Layton.

Carrie,

I know it’s been a while since you posted this, and I hope you still receive emails here. I would love to have the tape to either or both of these. We had them growing up and LOVED them. I have hunted for them for years, even calling up and talking to the owners. It would seem that they are quite hard to come by.

Please send me a message if you’re still willing/able to help out.

Thank you!!

Lisle,

Did you ever hear back from Carrie? I have also been on a search for the tape of Jonah in Jeopardy. My kids grew up with this tape – their grandpa was the voice of Jonah. Since we lived away from him all of their lives, this was their connection. In fact, they still call him Grandpa Jonah! He has tried to get the tape for us but has always hit a dead end. If you hear from Carrie please let me know. I would love to get a copy of the recording! Thank you! Claudia
