Reviving the Uptown Theatre?

CHICAGO, IL — The Chicago Tribune is reporting chatter on the possibility of something finally happening with the Uptown Theater. Abandoned for just about 30 years now, there’s hope that the new mayor will rally behind a restoration.

The Uptown was breathtakingly beautiful. I used to live around the corner from it when I went to school in Chicago (1959-60) and couldn’t believe my eyes the first time I walked into the building. It was astonishing.

I had the Mighty Wurlitzer out of the Uptown in San Diego’s “Organ Power Pizza” Had conductor’s podium and lobby furniture too. Tommy Stark
