Christchurch cinemas demolished after earthquake

CHRISTCHURCH, NEW ZEALAND — Three Christchurch cinemas were demolished in March 2011 as a result of the September 11/February 22 earthquake. They are the:–
Joyland/Princess cinema, New Brighton. Opened in 1918 abd closed 1946. It had a seating capacity of 500.
Harbour Lights Cinema, Lyttleton. Opened March 20,1917, closed 1979-1985. Seating capacity was 575.
Lizzy B’s 2-plex/Picturehouse 2-plex, Kaiapoi. Opened 2007, Closed September September 11, 2010 as result of original ‘quake.
The Regent-On-Worcester still faces the demolishers ball.

This is sad to read, but I am glad you posted the information, BK. Do you have any information about any cinemas or classic theaters in Christchurch that survived either reasonably intact or in a restorable condition?
Unfortunately all former cinemas located in Christchurch are in a bad way and face the wreckers ball, with the exception of THE THEATRE ROYAL.
Added to the list above can now be added CENTURY CINEMA, St Albans (suburb). Closed mid 1960s and converted to a Supermarket.
As of todays date the following cinemas are open:
Movieland Complex (Hornby) 4-screens Hoyts Riccartion 6 screen; 1
Hoyts Northland 4 screen; Hollywood Sumner 3 screens. Closed are Academy; Metro, Regent, Readings 8-plex, Rialto 4-plex.
Add to the list for demolition can be REGENT, ACADEMY and METRO.
The Rialto 4-plex, Moorhouse 8-plex, and Readings 8-plex are still closed.
Demolition of the REGENT has been postponed.
Added to the list above can now be added METRO 4-plexCINEMA, City centre.
To more cinemas have become victims of the September 2011/February 2011 earthquakes. Both the Town Hall Cinema at Oxford, and the Regent, Rangiora have been closed by the local District Council. Both cinemas future is now in limbo
The former State Cinema has been demolished.
Hoyts Moorhouse 8-plex is to be demolished over next few weeks.
