Laemmle Theater could close, become a tri-plex

LOS ANGELES, CA — Laemmle’s flagship Royal Theatre could be cut in three if Greg Laemmle’s plans are approved. In order to stay viable, they claim the renovations are necessary. If approved, they could be completed by later this year. Besides the home for so many exclusive art-house engagements, its part of a dwindling list of single-screen theaters in Los Angeles.

Granted, I haven’t read the article. Maybe there’s a big silver lining to that.

I’m torn. While I hate the idea of the theatre being whittled down to three small auditoriums, I suppose that is better than seeing it closed and converted in to something like retail.
