World Exchange Plaza theatre closes its doors

OTTAWA, ONTARIO, CANADA — The last downtown multiplex closed its doors last weekend when the former Empire Theatres ceased business. Landmark had purchased the lease a few months ago but can’t reach an agreement with the property manager. If a new operator isn’t found soon, the future of the building will be in question.

It’s a sad day indeed when the capital city of Canada can’t even support a modern cinema complex in it’s downtown core, even though there is a theatre chain who wants to continue showing films there. Obviously a very narrow minded, short sighted property manager does not see the benefits of having a perfectly decent 7 screen complex in an upscale location as a showcase for films downtown. Shameful.
