Searching For Info on The Brighton

I am searching for ANY information about The Brighton, Westgate Road / Lynwood Terrace in Newcastle upon Tyne which was a cinema up until 1963 when it became a tenpin bowling alley. The Brighton was also a dance hall and billiard hall at the same time as the cinema.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Looking for the Origins of the “Red Carpet” Tradition

I’m a newspaper reporter from New Jersey and I’m trying to find the origins of the “red carpet” tradition at movie premieres.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated! Emailing me directly would be the quickest way for me – I’ve only got a few more days before I have to file my story.

    Thanks!

    Association of Independent Cinema Exhibitors

I recently visited the Showeast Conference and was dazzled by the array of services and products available to movie theater exhibitors. I connect with a film festival programmer from Martha’s Vinyard, but was surprised not see more of a presence from Independent Cinema Exhibitors. An association like this exists in France and other countries.

As I move in the direction of screening films in my community, I would love to know if there are interested small theater owners who may want to link and form an association. Please let me know,

Movie Theater Relics Needed For Show

The following email was sent in from Daniel Trisi:

“I came across your website on a search for an old theater marquee. My name is Danel Trisi, I am a theater student at California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, CA.

I am currently working with a group of students from CalArts on our final theater production before we graduate. We are doing an original production called “Narrow Escape.” The production is a cinematic thriller about an old film director that escapes from jail and comes back to the movie theater where his movies once played.

Gas vs Oil For Heating A Movie Theater???

I was recently told that a theater I once knew of had the oil tanks removed from the lot it was on. This was done when it closed because the tanks were on a lot owned by another business.

How much could it cost to hook up gas and install it into a theater with about 11,000 square feet. How cost efficient is it compared to oil??? Thanks for your help, this is in effort to get the theater up and running again.

Starting an Indie Cinema in Omaha

    Hey everyone —

A friend of mine is starting an independent cinema in Omaha, from the ground up. She is looking for any advice/resources/guides she can find? Does anyone have any of these things?

    Thanks so much!

Dream of Owning An Indie Theater?

I have a strong desire to open an independent movie theater in the suburbs of St. Paul/Minneapolis. Anyone in the area interested, too? I’d love help with the business plan, ideas, etc. I may have financial support, too!

Also, I’ll need to prove I can find the right staff to operate the venue. Perhaps, that’s YOU! Let me know. I just wrapped up a volunteer stint at Sundance and am more determined than ever to make this dream a reality!!!

Seeking Information On Pittsburgh’s Atlas Theatre

PITTSBURGH, PA — I am part of the Perry Hilltop Citizens' Council, a local communtiy group in Pittsburgh’s North Side. We are seeking ANY information on the Atlas Theatre, located near 2603 Perrysville Avenue. There is a $25 reward for a good quality photograph of the theatre in its heyday, which we’re guessing was the 40s and 50s.

We are also interested in any historic information on any of the properties in that area, near the intersection of Perrysville Avenue and Charles Street.
