It’s been nearly a month since I’ve been to the AMC (last movie I saw was the one mentioned before two posts ago)…so I finally went to see “300” with my dad in theater #7, located next to one of the two bigger screens, #8. Presentation was very good, with the occasional white line near the left of the wide screen as well as some minor splotches (not the red ones), given the fact that this film has played here for nearly a month. Sound was very good from nearly all channels, only the front right and center rear surround channel was out (left, center, and right and left surrounds as well as the subwoofer were active); it was the same issue when I saw the previous movie on that same screen. Hopefully AMC fixes this problem.
Great news!!! Digital projection will come to Succasunna in the form of Disney Digital 3D (aka Real D), when “Meet the Robinsons” comes out on March 30th. I hope they keep the digital projection system so that future movies can be shown in the regular 2d format. Parsippany will also get this format, too. Don’t know if the larger Rockaway theater will show this movie in 3d, but we’ll wait and see!!!
I agree with you. Look at the Rockaway theater; since the theater opened, traffic around the mall has increased going to that exit, with backups as far as a few miles. BTW, will the new theater offer digital projection? It would be nice to see Garden State Plaza’s new addition to the mall offer state of the art sound and picture, along with comfy seats and excellent food!!!
I remember that when I was little that during the late 1980’s, channel 9 did a “Superman” marathon on Thanksgiving weekend, with both color and black and white versions (they still run on the American Life Channel in some markets). TCM is a great channel to watch classic movies uncut and commercial free with their original aspect ratios, while Fox Movie Channel is devoted to showing Fox movies (sometimes in pan and scan) all the time, except Star Wars, which is owned by Lucasfilm.
This past weekend, I went to see “Wild Hogs”. This movie has brought back John Travolta’s career from the dead, and guarantees him a good sequel. Hopefully there won’t be any more bad weather to delay the restoration of that historic theater in the area affected by the recent tornadoes in Ocala, Florida. When I read this story upon checking out this website, I was happy to read that Mr. Travolta, although from Jersey, premiered his film for a cause, which is quite rare in most Hollywood premieres these days. Let’s hope it stays that way with future VIP events and other gala events.

I’ve been to a REG theater (the one in South Plainfield) and the seats there are pretty good, it’s that the sound and picture aren’t that great…is this true for the E-Walk now that Regal took over. Looks like this theater will close for good in the future because AMC Empire 25 is getting all the good stuff (digital projection, classic movies, indies)…they should put a sports arena in there or a mall.
Went back to this theater with a group of young adults from the SCARC “Yacht Club” program (designed for young adults 18+ to go on trips like this one) after going to several Rockaway showings and the difference is huge. The projection and sound were excellent, there were no pre-show ads (maybe Clearview is getting ready to roll out the digital pre-show after that huge extension with Screenvision), and the seating remained the same the last time I visited there. Clearview is doing a good job for their moviegoing program. Rather than just get points off of tickets, I can get points off buying concessions, too. Plus tickets here are a bit cheaper than AMC’s, and they have a classics program. After the monstrosity that was AMC Rockaway 16, Succasunna is still alive.

Hopefully it will be for Paramus moviegoers who have to drive to Edgewater, Ridgefield Park, or West Nyack for their big screen fix.

Breaking news….the CompUSA which replaced the old movie theater will be closing this year…so much for a so-so computer store that took over a popular location…maybe the movies should come back there….too bad OfficeMax is still popular where the old GC Totowa Cinema was located. The last movie I saw at that theater was “Hook”, which was an ok movie to see in a small auditorium in Totowa, where there was no 70mm version. According to fromscripttodvd.com, the last 70mm movie that played there was the box office flop The Black Cauldron, Disney’s first PG-rated cartoon.
When 300 opens this weekend, please post any info regarding the presentation of the film, which will look a bit different than those commercials advertising the film that were shown in HD. The film will play on three screens (probably the two big auditoriums and the third biggest) at the theater with normal 35mm projection and Dolby Digital EX surround sound with a running time of nearly 2 hours (not including the AMC Moviewatcher Network stuff as well as the trailers).
Years after the theater closed, the movies are returning to the Plaza in a much different form, this time a 16-plex slated to open in the spring of this year. When that happens, I will post the Garden State 16 on this site. Hopefully it will be much better than the aging Route 4 Tenplex, which has outlasted all of its nearby cinema competition (Paramus Picture Show, Route 17 Triplex, and Bergen Mall) as the most popular multiplex in Paramus.
Thanks for that photo!! This was back in the days before TV lured people away from theaters like the Clifton theater, which was mentioned in a recent issue of Clifton Merchant, the town’s magazine. From its humble beginnings as a popular place for Hollywood’s Golden Age to showing blockbusters on a large screen to its status as a popular hangout for urban moviegoers to its fateful end as a transformation to a Walgreen’s, the Clifton Theater was the first theater to open in Clifton that paved the way for other theaters in the surrounding area, mostly the still open Allwood Sixplex, which is much nicer but smaller than the Clifton Quad.
went to see terabithia, decent presentation that was a bit out of focus and some channels in the surround sound were out of phase. any word on when digital projection is coming to this theater? i can’t hardly wait!
