when i worked for Loews in the late 70’s We would hire a protester to stand in front of the house, it would be shown on the local news and we had much more attendance than if nobody had heard about it.

The Crescent did have Cinerama for a short while I worked there in the late 70,s. The booth had 3 windows but were not used at that time. We even ran 20 minute reels until we got the hour reels 3 reels on-one we still used the carbon arc projectors we had to keep the stubs of the rods to be recycled.LOEWS was very strict about this it must have been a major expence. Many great times in this house.

TLSLOEWS commented about Tennessee Theatre on Nov 2, 2009 at 7:57 pm

After the Tennessee Theater stopped showing movies they had some concerts there, Bonnie Raitt,Ricky Nelson, and others, I used to get in free, I knew some people that worked these shows and some of the Police that were used for security.I was the Asst. Manager at the Loews Crescent just down the street, the cops would let me in because we used to let them in our shows if they showed their badges. This was a great theater. Too bad it only lasted about 27 years.T>V> Vcrs, and suburb houses put all the downtown theaters out of business.

Also the seating numbers are wrong the Loews Crescent had 830 seats, 415 a side. I know I used to work there.

TLSLOEWS commented about Loew's Crescent Theatre on Nov 2, 2009 at 7:22 pm

In the opening statement about this theater it needs to be corrected that Loews did not shut down the Crescent in 1972 it was more like 1980-1981, and Martin Theaters took it over for just a short time.Martin Theaters used to run several houses in Tennessee including the Tennessee Theater also on Church Street this was their Flagship house.

TLSLOEWS commented about Complete Set of 500 vintage marquee letters Pre-1900???? on Nov 2, 2009 at 7:06 pm

I worked at the LOEWS MELROSE in Nashville, Tennessee back in the day. Its marquee letters were metal and we had a very large room that they were stored in. The large letters were very heavy to me when I used to change the marquee of course i was just a skinny teenager back then. I also worked at the LOEWS CRESCENT and LOEWS MADISON but the had lightweight plastic letters.Red at the Crescent and black at the Madison.

If I am ever in Jersey I will check this place out for sure.I worked for Loews in Nashville Tennessee way back then , But our show places were nothing like this one. I am glad it has been resorted instead of torn down. Those were the days.Check out the Loews Crescent, Loews Melrose, adn Loews Madsion Sites.
