I don’t remember that movie while I was there, but I was in and out due to circumstances beyond my control :)
I do remember the egg chairs! We didn’t have them in the lobby though. I think they were in the office we had talked our city manager into letting us use. We thought they were so funny.
I was there when they put the games in that little area you’re talking about. We had a hard time getting used to that at first. They had one of the games turned up too loud and every few minutes it would just blare out DRAGON SLAYER… scared the crap out of us! hahaha

550 seats that is a heck of a penthouse. My cousin’s theatre the CAROLINA had what they called a Penthouse, but it sat about 125 people or so.more or less. Stan has almost every Atlanta theatre covered. I think he was a GCC manager.

I think Mike was just estimating 100…I knew it had to be more than that.
Stan, I just went back and read your post. It was really great to read. You seem to know all of the details about the time before I worked there. I worked at The Phipps off and on from January 1983 til about the end of 1985. It was a great place to work.
How about the furniture in the lobby. It always made me think of the furniture you see in a Barbie dollhouse! Big boxy plastic white couches with big red vinyl cushions! Makes me laugh to remember!

How do you ever forget a girl called ECHO,had she been a Sue i probably wouldn’t have asked. My cousin worked at theatre in Hendersonville,N.C. he did everything. They took out the balcony and squeezed a small theatre in the space. It seated about 125 and they called it CAROLINA PENTHOUSE. See how I got back onTOPIC.

I wish I knew for sure, but I think it held more than that. I remember having several catered sneak previews up there and those type of things usually had more than 100 people.

I guess the PENTHOUSE seated 100 or so folks?

I didn’t realize until I got on here that at one time the Penthouse was actually treated as a separate theatre. When we were there all tickets were sold downstairs. If your movie was showing in the Penthouse you had to walk upstairs. Most of the time the concession stand up there was open, but if there was an emergengy we could close it. You know we told you about an office we talked Mr. A into letting us use. We never knew what that office had been used for. It was far away from the other manager’s offices. I guess it must have been the Penthouse manager’s office at one time.

I wish i would visited Phipps Plaza while employeed with Plitt. I mean we were always going to ATLANTA. It wasn’t like going to NASHVILLE. Would have loved to have taken the tour:but with no Mr. A.

Okay that was a good story, but you said Cathy and you had forgotten so much about Augusta and seem to remember more about Atlanta. that is fine.Ilove reading them even the ONES IN NASHVILLE.
