if memory serves me right, this theater was one of the first theaters to get DTS installed just in time for Jurassic Park 15 years ago this day. The Loews in Wayne didn’t get it, since it preferred playing it in Dolby Stereo and was ordering a rival system, SDDS. My dad and stepmom went to the smaller theater just to hear those dinosaurs roar loud and clear!!! When the sequel came out in 1997, the Loews had DTS, not to mention SDDS but not Dolby Digital, which it would later install as SDDS became less popular at the turn of the 21st century.
any news on when it will close? there was a post on that other wayne theater that is still open which mentions that the amc loews wayne would kill off the smaller theatres. only one, the valleyview twin, is gone, leaving the future of the quad in doubt.

MADISON – Clearview Cinema Group, Inc. on Friday said it has completed the acquisition of five theaters from United Artists Theatre Circuit, Inc. for $8.65 million in cash. The theaters have a total of 14 screens and are located in Wayne and Bronxville, Larchmont, Mamaroneck, and New City, N.Y. The completion of this transaction raises Clearview’s number of theaters to 22 and its screen count to 83.

This was one of my theatres when I was a Division Manager for Clearview. It still grosses very well. Originally, it was a single screen built in the late 50’s-early 60’s in the shopping center. UA twinned the place in the early 80’s, then added two more screens. When this was done, the lobby was extended by building out into the original auditorium. If you go into theatres 1 & 2, you can see the booth windows are set back from the entrance doors, giving the impression that there once could have been a small balcony. The result is a very large lobby and large concession stand. The four theatres seat around 265-265-350-300, and recenly went through sound upgrades providing Digital Sound in all 4 houses.
The seats from the former 34th Street Showplace in Manhattan are currently in use at the Wayne Preakness Cinemas.
