I LOVE HOUSE OF DARK SHADOWS. My buddy and I saw it many times. First at the DORAVILLE MINI CINEMA on Buford Highway and then at the BRIARCLIFF VILLAGE THEATRE. Henderson High School ran it in 16mm in the lunch room auditorium one halloween. I saw NIGHT OF DARK SHADOWS at the ROXY theatre (remember that theatre) downtown Atlanta. In 1972 they revived HOUSE and NIGHT as a double feature at the Doraville Mini Cinema. My buddy and I smuggled in tape recorders to tape the entire movie. We were big on vampire movies. ANY vampire movies. Horror movies in general.

My buddies and me made alot of movies based on films. We loved HOUSE OF DARK SHADOWS and made several vampire movies based on that. We made a comedy based on THE IMPOSSIBLE YEARS with David Niven. We even made one based on BARBARELLA and FLESH GORDON. It’s pretty gay. Wasn’t my film, but a portion of it is on You tube. Enough years have passed that I don’t cringe as much as I use to. You may though. Check is out : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=es4GFO4KIB8

WE had planned to make a longer film with sound LAST BANK TO ROB we had a script, but it never got made.It must have been a task to edit it with a sound track.I did save the script and a few months ago made a copy for one of the guys that helped in all three movies,It was quite fun.Our last two were pretty violent .We were using live ammo for some shots.Shotguns.

In one scene i get shot by a guy saving his girl.WE took the buckshot out and put babypowder in it. WEll,the blast was so big it shot a wad of cardboard we were using in the shell RIGHT INTO MY PANTS!!!! I thought i was ruined for life.It hurt. But we went on.

That is show business.

Among the films my buddy’s and I made was one little 60 minute Super 8 sound shocker based on THE EXORCIST (which I first saw at a theatre downtown Atlanta and not at the Phipps Penthouse where it opened). Our film was called THE DEMONIC POSSESSION made miraculously without any parental censorship or interference. Even today when people see it, they look at me strangely. Check out an excerpt.

Yeah, I could have shot alot of film at the IMPERIAL without sound they would still been great. Our plots were pretty simple and we used the overture from Jesus Christ Superstar for all three movies it seem to work quite well with all the action.

If I’d known none of these theaters would be around and what they would mean to me later I WOULD HAVE shot more footage. I actually have a little footage of when SCROOGE played at the LOEWS TARA. Not much, but some.

I will include ads also from some of your favorite theatres. I read the Atlanta paper everyday until they quit selling them here,So much for “covering Dixie like the dew.” And any theatre article got clipped.

Can’t wait to see your pictures. Hurry up and find them. Also, if you liked OLIVER! you might like LOST HORIZON. Like OLIVER! the film is based on a famous novel and has a strong story. An adventure story. Problem was it was a remake of a Frank Capra film made in'37 and people were partial to the original. Also the first song in the film isn’t introduced until 45 minutes into the story. It asks the audience to change course after accepting it as a non musical. Like OLIVER!, it’s basically a drama with music and it’s the tale of SHANGRI-LA! Essentially an anti war musical fantasy. Try pulling that off? Film attempts to answer some basic questions about humanity. One can hardly fault it for not succeeding. The Bacharach/David music is what makes it so different and it has a great cast. Not a musical in the usual sense.
