According to a Twitter friend who did a cruise-by, the 10 is open for business with new movies, even though they have NO Internet presence and the phone recording is still the old Mann one. Weird.
And Mark, I would think they’d have no choice but to continue to book mainstream fare with the high screen-count and Vintage’s general booking style, but you would think Mann would have continued to get new movies through this week in that case, as they did with every Regency-takeover venue.
Now here’s an idea nobody talks about: what if they kept the Twin side only and ran indies? That’d be interesting.
I put an e-mail in to Lance Alspaugh, as there is no information online about the takeover. Could it just be month-to-month until a nightclub deal is approved by the city? Hope not.
Wow…so Vintage Cinemas have started to come out as a player in exhibition. I guess Regency cannot take over everything.
Will be interesting to see if they play same day and date as the Pacific 18 like Mann does or if they will opt for different programming.
Amazing news! I am told Vintage Cinemas (who run the Vista and Los Feliz) are saving the theater for now!
EDIT: Got confirmation that Thursday will be the last day, as originally announced. I have a few pictures of the original 8 side (some posted here), so I am going to go take pictures of the twin… MR. POPPER’S PENGUINS and THOR will be the two that play there, so if anyone wants to go see one of the other 8, then we can have both sides covered.
Mann just added times taking it through Thursday (before, Sunday was the last day published). Think this only a four-day stay of execution? If it were going to last longer, they would presumably be getting “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” on Wednesday, which they are not.
Closes Sunday.
As it is getting closer to the closing date at the end of June. Mann Theatres is leaving it in running condition.
Does that setup require a different concessions stand?
Getting pictures may require two trips to this theater since two auditoriums are in a seperate building across from the orginal 8.

I hope someone can get photos of the theater before it closes. Especially inside the theaters and booths. I wish it could be me, but I’m near Chicago! More info too.
I once worked for the Mann chain and enjoy keeping up on what happened to their theatres. I am just adding the link.
Don’t forget the Pacific’s Regency 1 (aka: Sands) & Regency 2 (aka: US Cinema/ Temple) theatres. At Mann’s Glendale Twin they had Mann’s Projectionist training school for asst. managers & staff.
Mann used to operate the Glendale Twins which closed in the late 1980’s I believe. They had offices upstairs from the theatre. Back during that period Brand Blvd. was the flux of Glendale movie exhibition with Mann Alex, Mann Glendale Twin, UA Capitol and I believe the Roxy.
As the Mann Exchange 8, one of the auditoriums was 70MM equipped.
Also this theater will close in 2011 when the lease is up due to the competition from Pacific’s 18 plex at the Americana.
This originally opened as the Mann Exchange 8. Around 1996 2 additional screens were built across the hallway from the original complex to form the Exchange 10. The largest theater in the complex was located in the new two plex. Both the two and eight plexes share the same central box office.
