Jensen – Would you be willing to contact the people at the Hollywood Theater? We’re starting the campaign to restore the building and would love to hear more about the history about the theater and your grandfather’s contribution to one of the great landmarks in Portland.

There was also a Hollywood Theater in Salem. Here is a link. You have to browse a bit to see the photo:

Hollywood is the only neighborhood in Portland to be named after a building.

The Hollywood Theatre was part of Evergreen State Amusement Corp. which was affliated with National Theatres Inc. (Fox Theatres). The Hollywood was an outlet in Portland for Cinerama. (3-Panel)

The Hollywood Theatre was built by Claude Jensen and John vonHerberg in 1926. Its architects were John Bennes and Herman (Harry) Herzog. They also designed two other movie theaters in Oregon, the Liberty in Astoria (1925) and the Bagdad in Portland (1927).
