When I worked for General Cinem aI was told that Har Mar never operated under Mann because they didn’t have the money and it was sold to General Cinema along with Southtown and a couple downtown theaters in 1970 and opened shortly afterwards.
The Har-Mar 11 setup (1-3 in the original building, 4-11 in a former supermarket) sound somewhat like the setup at the AMC Orleans 8 Theatre in Philadelphia (1-4 in the original building, built by William Goldman Theatres, 5-8 in the back of a former Pathmark Supermarket, with the front taken by a Pep Boys Auto Store)
I went a lot to HarMar Mall cinemas during my years at Macalester College. Cinemass 1-3 were alright, buy screens 4-11 were small and nothing special.
this place was no improvement to ‘theaters’;
gawd awful, can’t believe it is still open.
Yes, their last name was Slawik. It was the 2nd mall of its kind in Minnesoata, and possibly the country.
I believe the names of the builders of the mall were Harold and Mary, hence the name HarMar.
