Saw only one movie here in 1995, “Goldeneye”. Not the worst experience…the price was good (less than the first run theaters) and is was in basically good shape. The problems was the projection wasn’t all that great and the sound was awful. It sounded like there was only one speaker in the whole theater and it was behind the screen.

I too remember this place as Cinema 35. Three films of note that I saw there are: The Exorcist and Russ Meyer’s Super Vixens and Up!. All three are classics in their own right!

Saw Leon Russell at Paramus Picture Show on Thurs. July 29. It was a great venue to see a great musician! Sound was good and seats were very comfortable! It is wonderful to have venues such as this for live music!

I saw Earthquake at the Cinema 46 also, and I also heard the test of the Sensurround system at the Ziegfeld in NYC before a showing of “2001” in 1974. The Sensurround speakers were set up the same way in both theaters. I think it made it scarier to actually see the speakers as well as to hear and feel them.

I saw Earthquake at the Cinema 46 in Totowa. The Sensurround speakers were placed , one in each corner of the theater as well as 2 in the front. They were essentially just big subwoofers, but alot of fun. I’m surprised the Cinema 35 didn’t crumble to the ground.

Back in 1974 when they were still a major first run player in Paramus (and the Route 4 Stanley Warner had only a single giant Cinerama screen), I saw Earthquake there, complete with the monster Sensurround speakers. Unlike the Sensurround speakers described elsewhere, these sat on the floor in front of the screen. I guess they just didn’t have the required eight foot depth behind the screen to place them properly.

Wow. On their website, prices for their concerts (of bands i’ve never even heard of) range from $25-$50 each!

Its a shame that they don’t show films anymore. Now they just show live bands. For them to be a top theater again, they need to upgrade the equipment, but that’s highly doubtful.

When The Exorcist first played New Jersey six months after it opened its exclusive runs in New York City, it played here. I think it was called Cinema 35 then. The line to get in was probably the biggest ever seen in Paramus up to that time, at least until Star Wars came to town.

It’s a good theater and it’d be a shame if they never show films anymore. It’s a single screen theater. There are things they could do to make it a great movie venue….first, it definitely needs sprucing up. The inside is rather dark and drab. The screen is a good size but they need new and better projection equipment as well as a new sound system. They seem to be still operating on the original mono. The sound was always low.

What could work , is if they show films like the Big Screen classic film series at Lafayette in Suffern. They could show film festivals featuring all time classics even those that played there in the past. That would add to the concerts that they now play. Imagine a weekend film festival featuring..Casablanca, Exorcist, Jaws, The Searchers, Snow White, Blazing Saddles, Godfather etc. etc. (yes, even King and I) It would be great at that theater.. I hope somebody connected there takes this idea to work on…If there isn’t…I VOLUNTEER. A great theater should not be silenced.
