I seem to write this every few months now. A year ao I was shocked at prices here and I posted in January that the prices had gone up again. Here we are 5 months later and now the pre 11:50 am showings have risen to $8, the matinees till 3:50 have gone up another dollar to $13.25 and after 4 or so it’s now $15, $19 for 3D. Is this the priciest theater in New York City for regular showings at night?

Saw only 2 pictures here “The Ghost Writer” and “Atlas Shrugged Part 2” Actually saw part 1 of Atlas at Cinemart. Sad to see it go but it seemed that since it only being a 2 screener it got the films I guess that weren’t projected to do good at the Midway.

Went to see “Legend of Hercules” here this morning. I was sitting on the left side in the back row, 4 seats in the row. 3 of those new cushion seats had their seat numbers broken off already.

No matinees on the weekend. $13.25 for afternoon showings on the weekend, $10.25 during the week, outrageous.

Just checking Fandango and apparently the theater has raised its prices since the last time I was here in mid December. The pre 12 PM showings have had their price increased 50 cents to $7.50. The matinee showings starting say from 11:55 AM to 3:55 PM have gone from an already outrageous $10.25 to $12.25 (2 dollars!). Evening performances went up $1.75 to $14 now. Are you kidding me? 3D add $4 and night shows are $18!!!! This is in Queens, not Manhattan.

Again went here today with my wife to go to the 12:15 showing of “Philomena” (amazing 3 new films here this week) and that showing and the one following were cancelled for technical difficulties; saw it in Malverne instead. The screen would be supposedly ready for the more expensive after 5 pm showings. Theater had 13 busses of school kids there for “Frozen” (our taxpayer dollars at work). Was “Philomena” cancelled to accomodate these children for overcrowding of “Frozen”?The hand dryers in the bathroom also have not worked in months. Also every time one is about to cross the $100 rewards mark on the AMC Stubs card whether you are at Bay terrace or Fresh Meadows the system is always down. I have to fax copies of ticket stubs to AMC to get credit for whatever I attended.

Outside the fact that we are selling tickets for the new Hunger Games movie we have not had a new wide opening release (over 1000 screens) since “Don Jon” and “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2” (also in Fresh Meadows). We are getting basically the usual old Fresh Meadows rejects, Korean pictures and the occasional art house film. This week 3 more new films open in Fresh Meadows including the smaller release “The Fifth Estate” and we get nothing of course. They don’t even have “Fifth Estate” with any scheduled bargain before 11:55 am showings. And if we do get a wide release it usually is also in Fresh Meadows so they can get rid of it first when grosses are dropping but we will still have it. I complain a lot but wonder does anyone know what the story is on this place. Will it ever close? Will it ever be converted to new seats which was supposedly postponed from this year’s late summer?

I wonder if Bow Tie will close any of the other theaters they acquired from Clearview. Their Herricks theater in New Hyde Park doesn’t have any recent openers either. Their Main Street theater in Port Washington seems to be losing a lot of new movies to the recently reopened and renovated Soundview theater also.

There’s a 10 plex at 161st and Grand Concourse.

73 years there, they were closed a bit from 94 to 95 till Stuart Epstein bought it and reopened it. Used to live in that area and we also had the Circle and the Palace both long closed.

What’s going on here, no new films this weekend (I would have thought “Insidious: Chapter 2” would be a natural) and no performances listed after Sunday. This is from the Bow Tie site where the other theaters in the area that they own have schedules through next Thursday.

What extra one. I spoke to the AMC headquarters once and they said only small pictures play at our one. Really what about everything through last year and the few big ones we shared when they were new with Fresh Meadows when they opened (Despicable Me 2, Monsters University, Hangover, Man of Steel, World War Z). Around this neck of the woods it’s called Cinemart 2.

Ooh at the last moment they’ve added a Korean film “Secretly and Gently”.

When will this place finally shut its doors? After Despicable Me 2 came in we did not get Grown Ups 2 or Pacific Rim. Both went to our sister theater in Fresh Meadows. This week there are 4 pictures opening in over a 1000 theaters, all will be in Fresh Meadows and we get 2 of their rejects again. I may stop going to AMC theaters. What’s the point of a stubs card when your theater gets nada new movies. Maybe it can become another weight watching joint or fast food chain. Maybe AMC can redo the theater like Fresh Meadows and cut the seating capacity down to 26 seats per screen.

This is my wife’s favorite theater. She goes to more movies now because of this place.

Is this theater open again? Fandango has all new listings including all 3 wide openers for this week. Number given for theater is a general National Amusements number.

Love this chain, go to Fresh Meadows Wednesday and the escalator is still out. How often does it run? Does it have a special schedule and you book it in advance? Today go to Bay Terrace for 9:15 am showing of Monsters University (a rare wide opening here) and the showing is cancelled, projection problems. I am disgusted with AMC.

We drove by today and the outdoor marquee had no films listed. Is this theater closing shortly or has it closed already?

Yes Tinseltoes but up till the redo of Fresh Meadows we usually got wide releases in the first week of release.

I should call myself “Broken Record”. Once again no Gatsby or Peeples here this week but moveovers of 3 from Fresh Meadows. 42, Big Wedding and Oblivion. Sad because “Iron Man” has all the box office, both 42 and Oblivion are still in the top 5 so we may seem hip. We also get another limited release “Mud”. The limited release pictures seem to stay 2 weeks , Company You Keep being the most recent example here.

I went a week and a half ago to “Oblivion” in the afternoon and paid $9. Today I went in the early afternoon to see “Pain & Gain” and the price had risen to $10.25 for a matinee. Nightime is now $12 plus the pre 11:55 am showings are now $7. The stubs card when you made $100 in rewards would give you $10. It wouldn’t even cover a matinee price now. $16 at night and $14.50 in the afternoon for a 3D showing too.

Went to the film “The Big Wedding” (terrible movie) at the grand reopening of theater today. $9 matinees, $12 at night. Theater was still putting new floor in and castle like images around movie posters for uupcoming films. Theater is wild, they have done a medieval motif or design if you wall. The walls have wallpaper like a stone castle wall and all the theaters are designed as if you’re entering a castle. The seats I presume are all new (can’t remember the old ones) all have cup holders and they’re cushioned. There are statues of Knights standing around and a dragon also. The bathrooms I kid not have toilet paper holders that are actually knight figurines holding the toilet paper for you. The faucets at the sinks are shaped like dragons. They also sell french fries at the concession stand and sell about 10 different sodas including Cherry Pepsi and Dr. Pepper. Sadly only 7 people at “The Big Wedding” 12:30 PM performance.
