this movie house was the pride of queens .it looked better inside than half of the movies on broadway.some of the movies i saw there were one thousand and one nights,the great john l,samson and delilah,battle ground,red river, the tender trap and yolanda and the theif also kismet. with the following stars cornell wilde, doug mcclure,victor mature hedy lamar van johnson, john wayne,frank sinatra, debbie reynolds, fred astaire,and howard keel and victor damone

this movie was in the italian section of jamaica.also it was near the polish hall which was on sutphin blvd.and about two blocks south of lakewood ave. this part of jamaica was known as dunton or duntin

i.n 1944 or 45 i followed lauren bacall down jamaica ave.the movie was to have and have not i saw it first at the alden then the carlton,bellaire and the bellrose . isaw that movie at least 16 times in a span of six months

i went to this very small theater in the late 1940s (1949)this section of jamaica was called basiley park section and it was a white area

i first attended the linden theater in 1943. isaw the movie battann with robert taylor and lloyd nolan. the next movie i saw was salome where she danced with yvonne decarlo also lady on a train with deanna durbin. during the early 1950s it closed .and was turned into the linden manor, a dance hall.

the pecking order of the movie houses in jamaica during my time wre as follows.valencia,alden,merrick.jamaica,hillside,carleton,liden,plazaaand the marlboro.

this theater is where i saw night and day also to have and have not with the young beautiful and unforgettable lauren bacall.also objective burma and most othe big warner brothers movies of the 1940s .at this point in time movies and baseball were bigger than life

in the 1940s most kids that attended the following schools were in the plaza on sat ps 40,50,48,60,142,and st pious. the movie started at 1115 am . the same format every sat .a mystery movie a western and a comedy and a serial plus coming attractions also a cartoon.after the first showing it would be after 5pm. if you saw everything over again we are talking about after 11pm.then you would have to pay the piper with your life when you got home. some of the western heroes we saw were hopalong cassidy, sunset carson, the durango kid, buster crabbe, bob steele johnny mack brown and tex ritter. some of the serials were zorro.spy smasher and dick tracy
