There’s some history in the new photo here:

Drove by yesterday. Marquee says they’re open during renovation. Huge scaffolding covers front above canopy.

Three exterior lights still burning. “For Sale, Lopp Commercial Real Estate, 1-800-576-5677”

National Amusements may not be such a stickler on their reuse policy as rumor has it they need to sell off as much of their stuff as quickly as possible.

Still says Cinema on Florence Square marquis on Mall RD but it does look closed. Playlist on overhang is devoid of any numbers or letters except CINEMAS. No movie posters up outside nor that could be seen on the inside through the whole front glass wall and doors. Candy display cases are empty. Marquis over ticket box inside lobby is completely blank. I did drive around back too. The whole place looks in great shape! I just got back from the Dayton Amateur Radio Convention. This is what I saw. The bowling alley? Next door is for lease, and there appears to be a police precinct behind the theatre. Sorry, not much else. Theatre looks relatively the same from the outside as the available pictures of it I’ve found.

I just got back from the Dayton Amateur Radio Convention. This is what I saw. There is graffiti now in a light beige on the dark brown painted wood covering/protecting the front.

I just got back from the Dayton Amateur Radio Convention. This is what I saw. The sign out front says: Available, Anchor Associates, Contact: Amy Holter, (513)784-1106. All glass is now covered with wood. All plastic and lamps are out of the marquee. The bulbs and some glass are smashed in a pile in the lot behind the newer section in the rear. Only the metal skeleton of the marquis is left. All three RTU’s above the new section on the rear are missing side panels. Garbage dumped at rear of back lot.

Hey gang, I just got back from the Dayton Amateur Radio Convention. This is what I saw. There is no way that the Jersey Mike’s Subs building is or ever was a 400 seat single screen theatre. It’s way too small and way too new. I talked to a friend who watched movies up there frequently and he said the theatre was unassuming, but across the street in the Washington Square Shopping Center between the still existing upscale grocery store and a place called “Upper Crust”.

I just got back from the Dayton Amateur Radio Convention. This is what I saw. The sign above the Marquee out front says Telkamp Theatres but the rest of the sign, while still intact, is blank. The sign in the window says: For Lease, (866)933-1498, Schottenstein property group. Maverick DR, the side street, is blocked to thru traffic by a guard rail at the rear of the theatre. The inside has been spruced up (painted lighter colors) with newer carpet around the ticket booth since August 2002. The background behind the “Page Man r” is still that blue above the canopy and the o is still missing from the Manor.

I just got back from the Dayton Amateur Radio Convention. This is what I saw. The mall is gone. All that’s left is the Sears which is still open and complete with its five bay auto center. The mall entrance was bricked up and the rest of the mall, sans the parking lot, was demolished. Even the pad was broken up and removed. What’s left of the mal proper is the soil that was under the slab and the vast parking lot. In the far corner nearest the intersection is a Home Depot.

I just got back from the Dayton Amateur Radio Convention. This is what I saw. The lot is completely removed like sod would be down to the soil under the topsoil. There is something new being built on the sight. It kinda looks like a small one-story health care facility (didn’t see a sign out front).

I forgot to mention it is part of a newly built shopping at Exit 87 of I-75.

Ironically, this building appears to be a Blockbuster Video now. The building looks new from the street, but it has the highest cielings I’ve ever seen in a Blockbuster and there is a portion of a rear wall that is brick painted to match the beige Dryvit exterior of the rest of the building

Kudos to the architect for the full cut-off fixtures outside over the theatre exits. I thought it was built as an 8 in ‘94?

No stadium seating, but the seats are comfy and not ripped up. The front wall used to not have a ticket booth or doors. It used to be a solid wall. The only entrance used to be on the 19th St side. There used to be a ton of bike racks out front back in the day (and they were filled too). The corner where it sits was part of a dairy farm. Location was chosen to take advantage of a new gate the post was going to put up.

Drove by it this morning on the way back from a run to Oxford. From the outside, nothing seems to have changed.

He also said one thing that kept them afloat (other than being in Jasper [a moviegoing town]) was that they had Titanic.

Status: Nothing’s changed. I was told today by someone who’d been inside of it with the realtor on a tour about 6 years ago that the insides are nothing fancy, the booth equipment is gone but the chairs are still there but beat up.

Dolby Digital adverts in lobby. Still for sale. Sign in lobby door: F.C. Tucker/Kerstiens Realty, 812-630-3800, 812-482-1424. Looks like the canopy was originally open beneath and had exterior walls added. Ticket booth/kiosk is immediately inside those doors and has ornate gold top. Not much room in that miniscule space. People would have undoubtedly had to stand outside with the door continuously open to buy a ticket. From a small portion of exterior architecture, it loks like the back wall may be deeply curved. Also, it looks like the area that would be under the stage has been finished and is a store front on the back of the theatre on Newton street. A dog grooming place. Door immediately has inside curved stairs down. Storefront consists of windows from the level of the sidewalk up to your hip.

Could the booth just have been set-up as a single screen theatre “changeover” house (two projectors projecting onto one screen one projector at a time, no platters)? Was it run by Carmike?

OK! This is a cool find! So I go to look for this place and will be damned if I can find 139th. Turns out 139th runs through the middle of this shopping centers parking lot. Happened to have done a Google maps streetview of the address and recalled the visual (this was the only way I found the place. It is now home to a Pet World and Thrift World off Millard Ave in Millard Plaza (the address however is exactly correct except that it is 5321 and 5323 S. 139th Plaza…). Went in. Booth still there used as office space or storage in both businesses. Just walk straight to the back toward the Grease and Saturday Night Fever posters (Thrift World) and once at the back, turn around and stare agape at 2 pairs of changeover style projection ports lit from within. Same with Pet World except there I can only find the one set of changeover style ports again lit from within. Next to Pet World windows looks like mounting area for poster cases. There is a suspicious looking shorter extra Burger King sign in its parking lot. Methinks it was the original theatre street signage. 3 bricked-in old emergency exits at rear of original building.

Now the Heartland Family Service. Google Maps the street address and go to streetview and there you have it. Has this weird looking pipe TV antenna toward the rear. Old electrical weatherhead and porcelain insulators/stand-offs still attached to rear of building.
