A picture in the entry for Rocky Ford’s Grand Theatre looks more like this building’s entrance.

Judging by the street view of the Rex Theatre, I’d venture this is a photo of that theatre, not the old or new Grand. I could not locate the old Rex at the Rocky Ford address listed on this site. I wonder if “The Big House” was any good?

Drove through Cheyenne OK today. The Rook appears to be closed and undergoing some restoration/remodeling? New pic in Photos section, January 20, 2016.

Drove through Clinton today and visited the Redland – it’s for sale. Amazing that this town has no operating theatre.

Star Wars and Denver Bronco playoffs both on the big screen – the Lamar is covering all the options this weekend. New pictures in Photo section.

Attended a showing of Star Wars: The Force Awakens at The Movies on a Tuesday night. I’m happy to see older, small town venues adapt and survive. Excellent projection, comfy chairs with cup holders, ultra low cost concessions, friendly staff – what’s not to like? I was disappointed that the room was so dark before the movie that I couldn’t really see it – but the squares of carpet on the wall do qualify as eccentric. Well worth the visit.

The former theatre is now an electronics business in downtown Colby. New picture in the photo section.

I’ve seen so many great concerts – and a couple movies – at this superior venue. New pics from a couple years ago in the Photo section.

I’ve been driving through Clayton NM for over twenty five years – and it has been a pleasure to witness the community’s continuing commitment to the unique Luna Theatre. New pictures in the Photo section.

New pictures uploaded to the Photo section. While a bit non-descript, it’s too bad the old Center Theatre marquee has been traded in for a flashier – if still not visually exciting – electronic marquee. The 21st century graphics board is cool, while being wholly out-of-place on the low-tech Smith Center downtown scene. But haven’t we always depended on the movie theatre to provide a fantasy escape?

Tough to make out on the marquee, but the Jayhawk was bucking the big film at most of the area theatres – “Bridge Of Spies” – by playing the lower profile “The 33”.

My first visit to Oberlin on December 5, 2015…I don’t know the history of the Sunflower. Has the current location always been the venue’s home? It certainly looks new and spiffy from the exterior.

Not sure of the opening date, but the theatre was operating in the mid-1980s as a Commonwealth Theatres house, taken over by United Artists in the early 1990s.

kpdennis commented about Satellite 1 & 2 on Nov 19, 2015 at 11:42 am

While I attended college at the University of Oklahoma, the theatre hosted a few screenings of the English Department sponsored Czechoslovakian Film Festival, circa 1979-1980. One rare print of a Czech movie came with French subtitles, so an interpreter sat in the audience translating as the film played. Later the venue became a concert hall – I saw The Smithereens play an excellent show there, circa 1986-87.

My parents took us to a few films at this drive-in in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The Hillcrest sat next to Will Rogers World Airport, and the jets flying in and out often drowned out the audio!

Visited the remains of the Almonte 6 on November 16, 2015. Still empty and partially taken apart, with the projection booth exposed and the bases of the old projectors still in place – too heavy to move, I’m sure. I’d love to know if the safe is still in place in the manager’s office. New photos posted in the picture section.
