Orlando commented about 1956, Mayfair marquee on the right in black. on Nov 16, 2018 at 12:32 pm

It looks like the Loew’s name has been taken down and Brandt had the Mayfair, it became the DeMille in 1959, give or take a year. The RKO Palace hab a B type movie with 8 BIG ACTS on stage changing weekly for a while before going into Reserved Seats policy. PS Short was “March of Time”.

The Crystal Palace catering hall is not the Broadway Theatre, the building on the corner with the bank at the corner is the Broadway theatre with the covered over facade. The supermarket was never on this corner, the theatre was. Today’s posting should clear everything up. The addressess never lie but are misprinted in many theatre manuels and even phone books. A theatre is a theatre is a theatre by site, you also step back a few blocks and look at the roof, a dead giveaway.

Below the second floor windows is the form of a “canoe” or am I imagining this? The least known of any Pitkin Avenue theatre address, when did this surface… the Canoe that is…

I also got pictures (over one hundred) of the reliefs behind the furniture store walls were taken out. They were in great shape as well as the interior exit doors and signs. All the exit doors were differently decorated plaster works of art. Unfortunately, there will be no book or uploading of the photos. Sorry.

This theatre was not torn down, it was gutted andthe facadestill exists. The 47th Street fire escapes have been removed and storefronts and above that apartment windows exist. I repeat the facade and original 4 wall and roof exist. The discription should be changed to Gutted and it is now the 46th Street Apartments or Condos. I’ll let you know soon.

When you look out these windows, you see the New Utrecht Avenue El. These had been bricked up by the late 1960’s. This was a wonderful theatre, Brooklyn’s first atmospheric!

The movie “Lady Ice” on DVD in Widescreen shows the Miami Theatre during a jewelry store hiest. The marquee name is draped over with a black fabric but there is no mistaking it for the Miami Theatre. The features are “MELINDA” with Calvin Lockhart & “Come Back, Charleston Blue” as the co-feature. In a long shot of the marquee across the street, a garbage trash bin says “KEEP CHICAGO CLEAN”! What a hoot… The movie stars Donald Sutherland and Jennifer O'Neill. (Filmed in 1972-1973). You can’t fool me, I know my theatres. The first time DVD release is available at your Brooklyn Public Library. See it, it’s fun.

I have a photo taken in the late 1990’s or early 2000’s of Miller’s Capital Theatre engraved on the dirty concrete name plate on the facade. I can’t tell you if it was Capitol or Capital but I think it was the former. Has anyone found an ad or true opening date. I know I listed 1918 in a post 14 years ago but now would like to see an ad. It’s opening eluded me in my search, it just popped up in 1918 without opening fanfare.

As a former member, the screening room is appealing but the podium and chairs on stage should not be there. They distract from the screen. If the discussion was prior to the movie, they should have moved (“It only takes a moment….” from “Hello, Dolly!”)and if it was after the movie, “It only takes a minute” (from who knows what) to put them in place. If I am to critical, forgive me, that’s the way I feel about it. “2001:…” deserves better. Have a nice day and see you at the movies!

NEWS FLASH!!!!!!

THE KINGS THEATRE Management is about to take over their neighbor the Former FLATBUSH SAVINGS BANK when the bank ceases operations on December 19, 2018! The bank has been operated as an ASTORIA Savings Bank and more recently as FEDERAL SAVINGS BANK which took over Astoria in a merger. This tidbit hit my ears at 1:15 PM this afternoon. The bank is a landmark building but I don’t know if its' interior is (like the DIME SAVINGS BANK) in downtown. What will happen here is yet to be found out but let me take a guess, a BAR and eatery for folks who are already to line up for the evening show or after the show for drinks and light finger food. With their “B” grade at the theatre what grade would they recieve if it becomes that?

Anyway a BAR will not happen at the bank building because their is a bar on the corner of the next block called "BAR" and a fine restaurant called Delroy's just a few doors down on Duryea

St. which serves fine food and has a bar too! The KINGS already has seven BAR stations in the theatre besides its outdoor smoking area for shows now serves liquor and foods outdoors prior and to 12 Midnight during show days.

The neighborhood does not want any more BARS in this area and will fight all liquor licenses requests for this bank building! We won't be caught being prepared this time.
The greed for LIQOUR money must be stopped now before it starts to develope. And remember this is if it becomes a bar, but i can't see as anthing else.
