The USC Digital Archive says the theater in this picture was on the southwest corner of 7th and Broadway. Wouldn’t that be the State Theater? The website says it is the Pantages.
From the USC Digital Archive, a picture of Main between 5th and 6th in 1917. I assume that the Art Theater building was erected after the buildings in the same location in this photo. I haven’t seen any listing for the Omar Theater on Main Street, possibly because it was a burlesque house and not an actual movie theater.
This picture from 1925 shows Grauman’s Theater at Sixth and Broadway. Can anyone tell me what listing this theater is under? I assume that it was renamed later. Thanks.
I noticed two (possibly) former theaters as I cruised down Vermont today. The first was at 8725 S. Vermont and is now occupied by the Nation of Islam. I didn’t stop and visit. The second was a blue art deco structure, at around 91st and Vermont, on the east side of the street. If either of these theaters are listed, please let me know. Thanks.
There was an article in the newspaper last year concerning the purchase of the lot between 3rd and 4th on Main. Apparently some housing units are to be built there. Nothing has happened as of yet as I just parked on the lot today.
I drove by this theater today. The building is still standing. 5863 is a store called Wig Plaza. I noticed two carved falcons on the second story window, above the space where the marquee likely was placed. I thought that was an interesting detail.
I didn’t see any trace of this theater when I drove by there today. The west side of the Vermont block between 43rd and Vernon is a parking lot with a supermarket and adjoining stores.

This is a 1920 picture, allegedly the Burbank Theater at 548 S. Main, but it is hard to recognize when you look at the later building:

This theater is now occupied by the Nation of Islam.
Thanks for the info. My assumption was that the latter building was a theater based on its appearance, but it may have been something else.

Should this theater be listed as “Closed/Demolished” if the building is still standing?
