In “The Great Waldo Pepper” (1975) the Robert Redford character (Pepper) meets Mary Beth (Susan Sarandon) while watching Rudolph Valentino in “Son Of The Sheik” (1926) in the Texas Theatre. In the final cut we see the INTERIOR only. According to the December 6, 1973 edition of the Seguin Gazette, this scene was filmed on Monday December 3, 1973, while other filming was delayed due to inclement weather.
The city of West Des Moines was known as “Valley Junction” until 1938, and the historic downtown West Des Moines area is still referred to by that name. The building that housed the Lyric Theatre was known as the Wegener Building.

Back in 1988 this theatre was the “Mann Galleria 6”. Now it is the “Oracle View Cinemas”, not to be confused with the now-closed “Mann Oracle 4” down the road at 4439 N Oracle Road.

Two movies, “The Great Waldo Pepper,” 1973 (probably the date of filming, as the film was released in 1975), and “Raggedy Man,” 1980, have scenes filmed in the Texas Theatre. Several “shorts” and advertisements have also been filmed at the theater.

I understand that MGM held a sneak preview of “Logan’s Run” somewhere in San Diego on Friday, May 7, 1976. Does anyone know which theatre? I wonder if it was Cinema 21, since sneaks for other films were held here in the ‘70s-'80s including “Blade Runner” in '82. Anybody know?
I went here a couple of times to see $1 movies in the spring of 1989. “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” was showing in auditorium #4, so it was at least a 4-plex.

According to Wikipedia, when it opened in 1968, Tri-City Mall was the first enclosed shopping center in the East Valley region of the Phoenix metropolitan area. The mall closed in 1998 and was demolished to make way for a new strip mall shopping center, Tri-City Pavilions. The last standing Tri-City Mall store (the gutted remains of JCPenney) was demolished in April 2006 to make way for a light rail transit station.

Info I’ve found says the Pickwick was open May 12, 1949 to September 15, 1989. It was operated by: Cal-Pac Drive-In Theatres, Inc., and then by Pacific Theatres. Vehicle capacity was around 750. Unfortunately I never saw a movie here but I remember driving by there just before it was closed in 1989. It was demolished around late-1989 and replaced by the “Rancho Marketplace” shopping center (Vons Pavillion, Denny’s). The Pickwick Gardens entertainment complex (banquet rooms, bowling, ice skating, etc.) is still in operation just to the south (behind the shopping center) on Riverside Drive.
The Coronado Theatre is closed. A live (stage) theatre called the Gaslight Theatre now occupies the building (http://www.thegaslighttheatre.com).
Building is currently (2012) a retail sporting goods store (Golfsmith).

In about 1954, the 22nd Street Drive-In claimed to have the largest CinemaScope screen in the world.
Apparently was also known as known as “El Cine” (1969-1970), showing Spanish-language films.

AMC operated this theatre as the “Showcase 2” when I last lived in Tucson (1988).
The El Dorado was part of the Plitt chain and then Cineplex Odeon when I lived in Tucson in the late ‘80s.
The Buena Vista was part of the Mann chain when I lived in Tucson in the late ‘80s.

I saw “Jewel Of The Nile” here in December 1985. Theatre was closed around 1990 and is now an Ace Hardware store.
