To respond to Chuck 1231’s question, as a part of our community’s efforts to preserve the larger historic district, the Lyric Theatre is the subject of a current campaign to raise funds for renovation. The Lyric will serve as a community theater, hosting a variety of live events, including dinner theatre and concerts, and more.
The building immediately to the South, formerly Salvatore’s restaurant, is available for sale. The Lyric Board and other community leaders are in the process of obtaining professional counsel from an architect and appraiser to ascertain whether it would be better to buy and annex the Salvatore’s property or simply move forward with the original plan to renovate the existing Lyric building. There are advantages and disadvantages either way, but the upshot is that progress is being made, thanks largely to tireless work by Terry Simmons, Head of the Board of Directors, City Manager Ron Holiday, and Cecil Funderburgh at the Chamber of Commerce.

I am a Board Member for the Lyric, which is currently in renovation. We do have a wonderful movie theater in Eastland called the Majestic. The Lyric is a community theater for live events, and well worth a visit. Eastland oil producer Col. Robert D. Gordon was one of the earl investors in Hollywood. At one time (circa 1927) Eastland had no less than 17 movie theaters!
