The Victory was closed on Saturday 6th June 1954 for renovations. The Katoomba Embassy had shut four weeks earlier, having been sold for retail use. The screen from that theater - along with other useful materials - were moved to the Victory and installed in preparation for a re-opening of the upgraded venue on Friday 20th August 1954. Although CinemaScope was not introduced immediately, proscenium changes were made in preparation for later showings of that new widescreen format. Better model C &W projectors were also added from the Katoomba Trocadero - which had also just been upgraded in preparation for the Embassy closure.
