“View looking south on Guadalupe Street at 24th Street in Austin, late 1950s. That’s the Varsity theater on the right. Taken by Austin photographer Neil Douglass, who was born in 1900 in Snyder and passed away in 1983. Neil worked for some 20 years for the Austin American Statesman from 1934 to 1954, during which time he photographed everything from governors to shots such as this one. His archive is held by the fantastic The Portal to Texas History . Please, folks, follow them on Facebook. Alone, just the newspapers they make available and keyword searchable online is valuable beyond expression and that doesn’t include the hundreds of thousands of photographs.
