Memories! I must have seen 100 films at the Tower, from 1961-67, including The TAMI Show & It’s a Mad Mad Mad World and others too numerous to mention. All my friends from Eliot & Holy Name schools met there every Friday nights. Afterwards, we’d walk down to the Velvet Freeze for ice cream. I can close my eyes and still see the concession stand. ..loved their popcorn. Man, what fun we had!!!!

Although my neighborhood theater was The Tower on Grand Avenue, I had friends who lived in the Bremen area. I did see several movies at the Bremen from 1961-65. I remember the Bremen showed movies that the Tower theater didn’t. From my recollections, the Bremen wasn’t as nice as other theaters, but, the admission price & concessions were less expensive as other theaters. I also remember older residents of the area sadly recalling what a nice neighborhood it once was. I also sold Sunday Post & Globe papers on a Saturday night in that neighborhood. Wow== pushing that wooden box on metal wheels yelling out “Post & Globe papers”!!!!! Might be a dangerous thing to do nowadays but poor boys who received no allowance had to earn their own spending money (shined shoes in those neighborhood bars, too). Dangerous or not, I always said the North Side was good training for my tour of Vietnam. I enjoyed reading the relative’s comments- very enlightening. Now, if I can only find old Bremen photos.
