This theater was so nice when it opened that my parents always dragged me to it, even though the indoor clouds terrified me and we lived in the middle of the city. I enjoyed its art house run as well.

Remember it in first run…it always had such a dated look even by the early 80s. I remember a lot of brown and yellow permeating the design. This was in the first wave of lets clean up Riverside and give students who live over there something to do. The theater outlasted everything else. I remember when it went discount it had the movie Friday for what seemed like 2 years.

I miss Dobie. The local scene is still missing some of the great films it would take a chance on.

It actually ended up the Lincoln 6 for a while, they added a building across the parking lot that held a few smaller theaters.

I think the Riverside Twin was actually further down the street(in a different strip mall), they built this one as a new bigger multiplex further down Riverside near Pleasant Valley(essentially to compete with the Aquarius which is further down on Pleasant Valley). It is now a Chinese buffet restaurant.

I never could figure out why Southpark closed because it was definitely one of the better 80s theaters. Of course the location was another matter, there’s never been a residential community to REALLY support anything over there. I also heard in the 90’s it became an adult theater for a bit, but that was definitely on the gossip end of the spectrum. I do remember the great curtains they would raise before any screening.

I remember this one as a discount theater and also the one that was inside the original Westgate mall(which doesn’t have an entry as of yet). Westgate 8 I believe it was. I wanna say it was a Presidio…

The Highland Cinema 2 was closer to the mall. It was in the building where the House of Torment Haunted House has been held for many years. I believe General Cinema built this one(now the Galaxy) originally with 10 theaters sometime in the 80s/early 90s.
