Well To All: I am disabled and housebound so that’s why I have a large collection of classic films——-so I don’t think I will ver get there——-The Apollo was on 42nd st———Grey had a couple of homes, but Catalina was his main abode since he loved the sea as well as the wild west——-Joe From Florida

They can always double check them as I do at Allmovie.com———-and much information at IMDB is wrong since they go by Studio Notes——an perfect example is Ida Lupino’s birthyear, which I, Maltin, Neil Doyle and many others have asked IMDB to correct as they have it down as 1914 which is what Paramount was told when she came to them from the UK——-It is actually 1918——-So when she made her romantic debut with Paramount apposite Buster Crabbe in “Search For Beauty”—1934, when she was 15 going on 16, rather then 20 years old……………..plus there are so many others now——-all you have to do is login a title in Google Search and you will get alot of info on that title, or even more if you login the stars name——-Joe From Florida

Just go to IMDB.com and enter each title——-It will give you all the information on each title showing at that time———Joe From Florida

I moved to Long Island in 1959 and only went back occasionally to take my Mother to Moore Street to buy Material as she was a dressmaker———-In the 60s I recall walking up to Broadway and looking at the old Rogers all boarded up with windows smashed and a poster in the small lobby blowing in the wind of a Durango Kid movie which used to be shown there almost every Saturday in the late 40s and early 50s———-It was sad for me indeed——-Take care JoeB

No Joe…..I don’t remember the Kismet as I seldom went past Stockton & Broadway up that way since I lived on Willoughy between Central & Evergreen in the other direction———-My Mother grew up on Marcy ave near Troop in the 1920s———Her Father was a fish peddler in the area who would cover most of Williamsburg——-He passed away in 1948 when I was seven years old——-Do you remember when they closed the Broadway to refurbish it in the 50s————When it was re-opened it looked like it was brand new…………………..My Mother used to take me there as a kid to see all of the MGM musicals in Color——-and when I left I had a number 5 Excedrin headache as I much prefered the old Rogers with their westerns & action flicks——Joe From Florida

Hello Bway: My Aunt, Uncle and Cousins grew up on Stockton Street, two houses down from the Broadway in the 1920s through the 1950s……………………I would imagine that all of those old tenements have been torn down as they were quite old——-but needles to say, they would frequent the Broadway quite often———-I remember when they remodeled the Loew’s Broadway in the 1950s———all new carpeting was added as well as modern toilets, and a refreshment counter——It was a beautiful theater, and one of the last films I saw there was “Tarantula”——-scared the hell out of me when Leo G Carrol turned quickly towards the audience with his face all distorted——lol——-fun times & great memories——-Joe From Florida

Hi Astyanax: I can understand Warren’s view, as this website is devoted to Motion Picture Theaters——-and I understand your view-point also, since after going to the theaters like the Alba and others, many times we would go to a local candy store or pizza joint; so the surrounding stores do have a connection——-At BushwickBuddies, we have all topics, including the old movie theaters from that area including photos of the Alba, Rogers, loew’s Broadway and others, of which many are not shown here at Cinema Treasures———So why not give BB a try——-and tell Eleanor that Joe From Florida sent you——-It’s a great website to talk about everything in the old neighbrohood———Joe From Florida

Hi folks: Warren is right, as this website should be about the old theaters that we enjoyed going to years ago————anyone from the Bushwick area of Brooklyn, or surounding areas should check out BushwickBuddies.com————There, we discuss old times in old Brooklyn from the 1940s through the 1960s———Many Cinema Treasures members belong to BB, and you will find it to be the place to talk about the old days in Brooklyn——-Joe From Florida——aka JoeR at BB

Hi Joe: It came through fine…….The Co-Feature, Ten Cents A Dance—1945 was also a film-noir starring Jane Frazee———The Strand always seemed to book two films in the same genre———Haven’t seen you at BB lately———-JoeR

Hi Joe: It was Bickfords Cafeteria at the time as I had lunch there a few times from 1959 to 1961————and now I remember the Aster being closed————-I only went to the Williamsburg a few times since it required me taking the El to get there(early to mid 50s)———-I lived on Willoughby Ave between Central & Evergreen Aves——-My Mother grew up on Marcy Ave in the 1920s & early 1930s and she went to the Marcy Theater with her older Brothers————We had plenty of Movie Theaters to chose from in our old neck of the woods————and Joe, why don’t you join Bushwick Buddies———many folks just join to read the articles & posts, and to see the Hundreds of photos from the old neighborhood—-You don’t have to post anything—You will love the website——JoeR

JoeB: If I recall the Aster was diaganaly across from the Williamburg next to Bickfords where the tracks from the El turned to go over the Bridge———-I worked at Domino Sugar from 1959 to 1961, but I think the Aster was closed at that time———-JoeR

I liked him as well——-He was the “Peaceable Man' with six guns backwards in their holsters———-That was another time when the Rogers had a nice crowd——when they showed his Red Ryder films and his later films from Monogram/Allied Artists———Great memories Dubya———Joe From Florida

Dubya: I live in Central Florida about 65 miles southeast of Orlando On the East Coast———I am disabled so I am housebound except for Doctors appointments——so I have my old westerns on dvds and video tapes now————I don’t receive company or phone calls because I have spinal chord damage and do not know from one day to the next how I am going to feel——plus I am on very heavy duty meds———So talking with people on the internet is my enjoyment as well as watching my old movies——-Makes me feel young again——-I live with my wife of 46 years( I married young ) and my 90 year old Mother In Law and our 21 year old cat sashee——I have two grown Daughters & 4 teenage Grandkids——-and my Family is my life———Joe From Florida

Dubya: If you could post a photo of the old Rogers, you would make my day————-Last time I saw it was back in the late 1960s when I took my Mom to buy material on Moore Street; we lived on Long Island then————I walked up to Broadway and it was all boarded up with broken glass, and inside, from where I could peek through, in the small lobby, there was a torn poster from a Durango Kid movie———-I had a deep sad feeling that day——-I am now 66 years old and retired in Florida————If you want to post your e-mail for Cougar, not to worry, nobody at this website will bother you———Everyone here are Gentlemen and Ladies and would not invade your privacy, plus you may have found a long lost relative in Cougar——-Great exchanging with you here———Joe From Florida

Dubya: I liked Rocky Lane also, but my 2nd favorite was Sunset Carson————-I became friends with Sunset when I met him in 1980 at a western films convention in Charlotte, NC——-then in 1982 I met Jock Mahoney who was Charles Starrett’s double and Starrett himself in Memphis, Tenn. at another convention————-They told a few of us that Harry Cohn wanted the Durango Kid character to have the whitest horse in the movies, so whenever the horse “Raider” would get dirt on him they would white-wash the horse———-Since Jock did all of the riding he always had to have a few costumes with him in case paint got on him——and it did plenty of times———Cohn told them to even paint the horses rear end so only white would show——-Joe From Florida
