2021 view of what the site of the Melba Theater looks like today. The modern garage is actually attractive as those things go with the stairwell giving it the appearance of a regular building. It serves the apartments in the converted building next door. The lettering over the entrance of that building that spelled out “COMER BUILDING” is gone but the holes made by the anchors for the letters are still visible. The City Federal sign was saved and is still there. In my day it was never referred to as the Comer Building. It was the City Federal Building although I recall that it only had their main downtown branch on the ground floor. They may have rented office space upstairs as well.
