Demolition underway in 1974. Shortly afterwards all that area would change completely with the removal of the railway bridge and embankment which carried the Bishop Auckland to Durham branch. All these acts were to promote roads and cars. Did this help Bishop Auckland? Hardly, as it is ‘as dead as a dodo’ these days…….
