The Theatre officially opens this week! We have a FREE open house, Memorial Day from 1-4pm. Tours will be given and the Columbus Jazz Youth orchestra will be giving a free concert on the stage in the second floor Ballroom. The theatre is now listed as a CAPA venue on the site too. The site does list some upcoming performances on the calendar.

FYI: The actual address of the theatre is 769 E Long St. Not that it matters that much, the above addy listed is for one of the store fronts. The theatre seats 566 and is restored to its original Egyptian elegance. A balcony was added during the renovations, where there orinally was none.

The Lincoln IS currently being restored. The city of columbus owns it and is paying for the renovations. CAPA (owns/manages Ohio theatre, Palace Theatre & Southern theatre among others) is handling renovations and has already began to book the venue. They have BIG plans for that little theatre!
Before the renovations began last fall, CAPA employees were allowed a tour of the theatre. WHAT A MESS! In the house, no seats and no flooring remains save for the concrete. Balcony is gone (although we couln’t figure out where it would have been). Rumor has it there used to be one but there seems to be no documentation on it. We weren’t allowed on the stage as the stage floor was so rotted it was dangerous. There’s a small pit and storage under the stage. Dressings rooms had been gutted and vandalized by vagrants(who even knocked down a couple walls). The second floor has a finished ballroom that was still being used and the third floor was a large open space that will be made into rehearsal spaces and the Jazz Academy. When it opens it will be home to the Columbus Jazz Arts Group among others who are planning to reside there. Maurice Hines has been hired as Artistic Director for the theatre.
If anyone has any photos/info on this theatre CAPA would really like it for their arcives. go to www.capa.com Although they haven’t added the theatre to their website they are currently booking the venue.
