I have to agree with what I have read here about imdb.com

As for the Parthenon, I remmeber this theater well. It wasn’t as ornate as the Madison, but it was decent. I haven’t been by that area in many years, I am sure it has changed a lot.
I found a great site called Bushwick Buddies that has some wonderful nostalgic photos of Bushwick. I was lucky to find it, because on that site, I read about Cinema Treasures, so here I am. I think I will have many hours of enjoyment reading about all these old theaters here. I am very nostalgic when it comes to old movies. I am now 82, and haven’t lived in the area since I had to move when my parents moved out of Bushwick a year before I was able to finish FKL.

I was only in the Broadway Theater once, and don’t really remember too much about it, other than the fact that it was quite fancy. I think it must have been some time in the 40’s, and I agree it was a showplace.
I do however remember a lot about it from the outside. I lived over on Pilling St as a kid, and I would often go shopping with my mother on Knickerbocker Ave. We would take the Jamaica train to the Myrtle and Broadway elevated station, and get off and take the Myrtle El to Knickerbocker Ave. I remember always looking at the Broadway Theater as it towered above the station. So many memories. This was not far from the Rogers Theater down the street, which I also remember seeing the marquee from passing trains. But the two didn’t compare.
One of the first DVD’s I bought was the movie “Ghost”, because it was filmed in the neighborhood, and you can see this theater in that movie. I am 82 now, and a big fan of old movies. I know isn’t exactly an old movie, but for nostalgia, my daughter bought it for me. My daughter has slowly been helping me build my DVD collection.

So glad to have found this site.

I faintly remember seeing the marquee of the Rogers Theater while passing on the old el above. What memories. I never went inside though. I often went by on the el above.
Someone mentioned having photos of the Rogers above. If anyone does, I would love to see them. I am now 82, and found this site through a site I also just joined and found called Bushwick Buddies. They have wonderful phtoos, but haven’t had time to go through all their stuff yet. I read about this site there, and now I am hooked here too! I also made a whole comment about dish night in the Rivoli Theater. The memories are faint, but these sites are helping jog the memory!
Well, if you do have a photo of the Rogers, I would love to see it. My email is

The old Rivoli. This brings back so many memories. I used to go to the Colonial Theater as a kid because we lived near there, but my mother would often go shopping on Knickerbocker Ave and we would go sometimes to the Rivoli to see a movie. What memories. I am 82 now, and the memories are faint, but this site has stirred so many memories. I notice someone above, I think Florida Joe, mentioned dish night. My mother had an entire set of dishes from the Colonial Theater. She would always make me be sure that I would bring home the dish of the week if she wasn’t with me.
I also remember the seats being very soft as someone mentioned above. Much better than the Decatur, another theater I went to often as a kid.

I am so glad I found this site, I have lots of reading to do. I found out about it through another new site I found the Bushwick Buddies. Such great memories there too of the old neighborhood. I am really enjoying the nostalgia since finding these two sites!
