Rosemount Picture Gardens The third prize in the City of Vincent Local History Awards: Contemporary Photograph category is a photo of Ralph Stewart outside his old place of work, the Rosemount Picture Gardens.

Ralph was the projectionist at the Picture Gardens and the Rosemount Theatre from the age of 14 when he left school, until the picture gardens closed in the early sixties because of competition from the introduction of television.

More recently the building has been a car mechanics’ workshop and is now for sale as a multi-lot development site. Ralph recorded an oral history with the City of Vincent Local History Centre in 2023 and this photograph was taken by Ron Vandenberg.
