- Jan 19, 2010 — Kenwood Place movie theater in works
Originally opened on December 25, 1938 with Bing Crosby in “Sing You Sinners”. It was a 725-seat single screen theatre. This theatre was closed, renovated, and reopened as a 3-screen art house theatre in the late-1990’s. In 2013 two additional screens were built at the rear.

Five!?
Based on my (admittedly few and long ago) memories, that just seems SO out of scale for the size of the theater and its lovely surroundings.
(I have nice memories of visiting Cincinnati in the late 60s and early 70s, and being taken here with family to see “Cactus Flower”, “If It’s Tuesday This Must Be Belgium”, and I think “French Connection”.)
Mariemont now has a total of 5 screens by expanding into the parking lot behind this cinema. Went to see ,“Saving Mr. Banks”, which I enjoyed very much.
Though architect Fred Stritzel might have been required by the developer to give the Mariemont Theatre a Tudor facade, the interior appears to have been done in the Streamline Modern style characteristic of F & Y Building Services designs during the late 1930s. An article about theater seating in Boxoffice of January 7, 1939, includes a photo at the top of this page showing enough of the theater’s walls and stage to detect its modernity. The original capacity of the Mariemont was 725 seats, according to the caption.

Loved going here! My Mom would bring me to watch GORGO and other monster movies. And if I remember correctly there was a candy shop next door.
