The Goodwin Theatre was opened in 1913, when it had 750 seats. By 1941 it had been renamed Globe Theatre and was operated by Warner Bros. Circuit Management Corp. It became Newark’s only full-time art theater for many years. Converted to retail in the late-1950’s.

Was also called the Goodwyn Theater. An American Master organ was installed in this theater in 1916.
Listed as CLOSED and part of Stanley Warner Corp. in the 1956 Film Daily Yearbook.
When I was a child I remember my Grandmother telling me that my Grandfather Louis DeNault worked with Thomas Edison in Orange NJ then left and opened The Globe which was the first theater in Newark. He died before I was born and my Grandmother and Mother are gone, does anyone have a picture? or have info on Louis DeNault?
The former Globe Theatre is now a VIM footwear store. At least the entrance foyer and former lobby space. It is located right across the street from the new parking garage adjacent to the new Prudential Center.

Architected by William E. Lehman, the 750-seat Goodwin was named after the Reverend Hannibal Goodwin, former Rector of the House of Prayer in Newark. He invented a photographic film for stereopticons at the church. The theater was built in 1913 and run by the William Y. Webbe Co. Circuit at opening.
