News About This Theater

Tower Theater at Sunset

The Tower Theater originally opened November 7, 1940 with Lucille Ball in “Too Many Girls” and a seating capacity of 1,100. The Tower Theater was remodeled and reopened on July 1, 1955 with James Stewart in “Strategic Air Command”. It was closed in 1983. The Magic Circle Theatre operates the Tower Theatre and the nearby Roseville Theatre which is also on Vernon Street.

The group has renovated the exterior and lobby of the Tower Theatre. Since around 2002 it has used the restored theatre as a venue for performing arts. In 2010, classic movies were being screened occasionally.

Mystic Cinema is no longer using the Tower to show films; the theater group that was leasing the theater has also folded:http://tinyurl.com/2esm9zm.
The theater may now be closed.

The theatre is not closed; the previous occupants filed bankruptcy. In 2011, the city of Roseville unanimously voted our 501c3 in as the new permanent operators. The marquee shown above bears our company name. :)

Our website is here:

We specialize in training and production in live theatre, films, outside bookings and performance event services.

Pictures of the interior can be viewed on the website as well.

Hope this clears up any confusion. :D

Also, to update the information beneath the photo: we do still screen films as well as live theatre. Our July Wednesday night series will include a drama, a romantic comedy, an action/sci fi and an 80’s flick, to be determined by viewer email write-ins and voting on Facebook under the Stand Out Talent and Tower Theatre – Roseville pages.

Screenings cost $5 admission. All concessions are $1 – $2.

The Tower opened on November 7, 1940 (by coincidence only one day after I was born!). It celebrates it’s 75th anniversary on November 7, 2015 with a special program starting at 10 AM which concludes with a screening (most likely via projected DVD) of the first movie that played at the Tower, “Too Many Girls” with Lucille Ball, Richard Carlson, Ann Miller and Desi Arnaz (according to Leonard Maltin this was when Lucy first met Desi in real life!).
