Green Theater

The Friends For La Plata Preservation have recently purchased the Green Theater in La Plata, MO. The theater opened in 1936 and closed it’s doors for good in 1985. The building still has most of the original fixtures inside. Our preservation group hopes to get the building listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and then renovate it back to the way it was in 1936.

My grandfather’s theatre (V.G. Green)…I spent many a summer’s evening working the consessions with him or sitting on my grandmother’s lap in the ticket booth passing out admission.

Progress incredibly slow. Building looks nearly identical to my first visit over 9 years ago. ‘Green’ has been painted up top, and I think the awning might be new. Lobby looks exactly the same, except now it’s full of stuff for the work.
