Community Theatre

The Community Theatre first opened in December 1937 with Pat O'Brien in “Submarine-D1”. It was in the Colonial American style pioneered by the Walter Reade Circuit, which built it. The building currently functions as a warehouse. Once a major port town, Hudson is best known today for its many antique shops.

Actually, it opened in December, 1937 and the first film shown there was SUBMARINE D-1 with Pat O'Brien and Wayne Morris.

Saw this theatre on my bike trip 2 weeks ago. The rear of the auditorium is actually on the right of the street, which means you have to walk in and down to the left and then in the auditorium. The rear looks like a hulking warehouse.

I grew up in Hudson and loved sitting in the balcony. Beautiful red carpeting throughout; great candy counter (neccos and beer barrels my favorite). Theater just bought by performance artist, Marina Abramowicz, who wants to turn it into an institute for performance art. Hope to be a visitor there when it becomes a reality. I believe in miracles.

Added a picture from 2012. 2018 streetview shows this still basically derelict.
