Built into part of a department store in a strip mall, the Greenfield Cinemas opened in the late-1980’s with four screens. Utilitarian no-frills establishment. Largest auditorium was about 300 seats, but the auditoriums were fairly wide and shallow, allowing nice wide screens to be installed.

Spacious entry lobby running straight back with auditoriums going off to the right side. Before they opened, the only theatres in the area were two downtown single-screen 1920’s era venues (Showplace and Garden). Later added two more screens.

When the downtown Garden theatre was multiplexed into seven screens, the Greenfield Cinemas struggled to compete and closed in 2003. A rare example of the downtown movie palace outlasting the modern competition!

The cinema portion of the shopping complex has now been converted into a Big Y Supermarket.

This description sounds like a theater I went to a few times during the summer of 1984. Admittedly, I thought the multiplex I went to was on the other side of the off-ramp. (I doubt it was the one on the other of Federal Street.)

Went to see a film at the Greenfield 6 in the mid-90’s when it was part of the Hoyt’s cimema chain.Still recall the large water stain on the celing tiles of the theatre I was in.
