PC Cinemas

Opened by AMC Theatres on August 20, 1976. Later taken over by Carmike Cinemas. This is a second-run "dollar" theatre located in Panama City Mall, amongst its food court. When we moved to Panama City in December 2003, admissions were $1 weekdays, $3 weekends; within a year or so, a flat fee of $1.50 was instituted. This was raised to $2, and is now $2.50 all times. It has a strong resemblance to AMC or GCC mall theatres from the 1970’s & 1980’s.

The theatre and its auditoriums have an unmistakably rundown look, and for the entirety of the summer of 2005, it had no air conditioning. Movie prints vary from very good to fair. Despite its many problems (mainly poor management), it is an incredibly popular cinema, esp. on weekends. In March 2017 it was taken back by AMC Theatres. It was closed January 11, 2018. In the fall of 2018 it was taken over by VIP Cinemas and reopened as Mall Cinemas and then renamed PC Cinemas.

After writing a complaint, recently, to the company, via their website, about the conditions of this theatre, their district manager assured me measures had been or would soon be taken regarding staff training, lighting issues, and, one would hope, film quality; he also informed me that as of February 29, 2008, the ticket cost would revert back to $1 each. I can only assume I wasn’t the only one to complain about the cost (especially in relation to the quality of the movie-going experience).

As PC Cinemas this is now a first-run movie theater again.

The Grand Opening ad is definitely AMC, and the ground floor projection setup was a pretty common practice with AMC theaters at the time.
