Not much of a name for a twin theatre, but the Mall 1 and 2 Theatres was opened by ABC Southeastern Theatres on July 4, 1975. It was sold to Plitt Theatres in the late-1970’s. Located in the Asheville Mall is a quite little theatre with usually product split between the Mall 1 and 2 Theatres and the nice one screen theatre in Asheville, the Terrace Theatre.
Home office was in Charlotte, with John L .Huff, president. Good old Marion Biggs was the District manager out of Columbia,S.C.
Often,the Terrace Theatre would get great movies like "Heaven Can Wait" while Charlotte bookers would put "How Funny Can Sex Be?" or the horrible Christmas flop,"Moment By Moment" in the Mall 1 and 2; which I would be willing to bet John Travolta bought the prints and burned them.
Still, for children and the Mall it was a great place for kid movies and shopping. "Santa and the 3 Bears" was one such movie. Kids a dollar and parents free. Good kid matinees put shoppers in the Asheville Mall. It was closed on August 5, 1999.

Mike, back on 6/21/2010 you made a mention of a manager named Neal. Would you happen to remember his last name?
It is odd that this theatre stayed open for 23 years and managed to avoid the twinning plague. Those great Ultravision theatres were almost square and as a result were prime candidates for twinning, or should I say “shoeboxing”?

An article in the 8/15/1999 edition of the Asheville Citizen-Times says that the theatre closed with nary a whimper on 8/5/1999.
