Opened in 1970. Jack Quinn was the opening Union operator (projectionist). I believe the largest house had 350 seats and the smallest had 250. It had Cinemeccanica projectors with 13,000' reels. Had Altec A7 Voice Of The Theatre speakers and Altec 1568 tube amps.

Closed at one point (I believe in the early-1990’s but I cannot remember for certain) and projectors were removed. One house had yellow and the other had purple burlap curtains in one piece that opened horizontally from one side to the other. Reopened as a dollar house. I believe platters were installed for the reopening but not certain. One of the previous chains was Highland Theatres which later became Cooper Highland.

Became a hardware store after closing for the second and final time. The building is now a Goodwill store as of 04/23/15.

History dictated by Mr. John Templeton, union operator

The name of this entry is incorrect. It should be Basemar (sometimes written as BaseMar). The small shopping center was so named as it was at the corner of Baseline and Marshall Roads. Marshall Road became South Broadway but the name of the shopping center stayed the same. The space was originally a supermarket (Busley’s, later Red Owl). As noted, it was converted to the cinemas in 1970.
