On the site of the Flamingo Drive-In in Del Rio, the Cinema Plaza Theatre was constructed in 1972 to the plans of Dallas-based architect William H. Hiddell. The theatre was a co-venture with Val Verde Theatres Circuit and United Artists. The theatre opened with “The Godfather” on June 7, 1972.

Plitt Theatre Circuit took over the theatre circuit. It closed the Cinema Plaza on July 5, 1981 with “Dragonslayer”. The Plitt Theatre Circuit then closed with Gay 90s Drive-In at the end of its lease a week later.
