The North Star Drive-In opened May 22, 1953, with George Montgomery in “Jack McCall, Desperado”. It was described as being 3 miles North of La Crosse off Highway 16. It was first operated by Phillip Dyer & Peter Reinhard & Associates.

It was taken over by Marcus Theatres on June 1, 1959 and they closed the North Star Drive-In on July 14, 1986, with “Ghostbusters” and “Back to the Future”.

The building and screen were demolished in June 1990 and the site is said to be near the present-day Target Store.

It was purchased by Marcus Theatres on June 1, 1959. The purchase agreement said it was a 500 car drive-in.

The address above is incorrect. That was the entrance road. Theater Rd. did not exist when this theater was open. The address for this drive in was 4301 WI-16, Onalaska, WI 54650. This points to where the entrance road met the highway.
