The town of Van Hook was flooded in 1954 when the Garrision Dam was built. By 1926 it had a movie theatre named Idikish Theatre. It operated until 1931 as a silent movie theatre and was listed as (Closed) in the 1932 edition of Film Daily Yearbook.
In 1936 a new theatre, the 200-seat New Theatre had opened in the town, later becoming the Ultra Theatre and operating until the town was evacuated in 1954. (it has its own listing on Cinema Treasures).
