Electric Theatre

The 1916 Sanborn shows a theatre operating in the Mudd & Gibbons building, which was constructed around 1904. On the 1906 map, the tenant is a hardware store. The second floor was occupied by a fraternal hall on both maps. The Electric Dome Theatre was opened by 1914. By 1926 it was operating as the 220-seat Electric Theatre. It was still open in 1931 as a silent cinema with 250 seats. The beautiful original storefront remains today. The retail space looks vacant, but there seems to be an apartment upstairs.

I guess you can remove my remark about the tenure being short. I’m surprised it was there so long without modifying the entry. Must have had pretty low traffic, since the ‘Mudd & Gibbons’ cast into the iron plate in front of the door (I’m sure this has an architectural name.) is hardly worn at all.
