The South Park Drive-In was located about a mile from the Lamar Campus. It was opened on June 9, 1950 with Randolph Scott in “Canadian Pacific” & William Bendix in “The Life of Riley”. It was operated by Julius M. Gordon & the Jefferson Amusement Co. The theatre had an MT Miniature G-16 Limited train providing fun for the kiddies. The theatre was closed in 1973 and has since been demolished.

A more accurate address (at least for Google) is 5911 S M L King Jr Pkwy, Beaumont, Texas. It seems that the Port Arthur Road changed names at some point to the MLK. Then, another road was named Port Arthur Road just to make things confusing.
The South Park Drive-In made it at least to 1970. Today, the property has been paved over and appears to be used for storing items. There is no trace of the drive-in remaining apart from its general shape and entrance/exit roads.

Interestingly enough, a 1959 aerial shows a demolished drive-in on the opposite side of the road. Anyone know what that drive-in was?
The demolished Drive-In was the Spindletop Drive-In Theatre on Spindletop Drive.
The Feb. 2, 1952 issue of Boxoffice included a two-page article about South Park’s Kiddyland, which opened in July 1951. It included plenty of photos.
Opened on June 9th, 1950. Grand opening ad posted.
Closed 1973.
