Manor Theatre

The Jerry Lewis Cinema in Shippensburg was an unsuccessful franchising effort by South Penn Mini-Theatres and Joe Zammito. The Jerry Lewis Circuit was a group of automated single-screen and twin-cinemas that offered franchises for a low start-up fee. Zammito had opened his first Jerry Lewis Cinema on January 26, 1971 in Waynesboro. This Shippensburg theatre began construction in November of 1971.

The Jerry Lewis Cinema in Shippensburg had its grand opening on June 29, 1972 with the film, “Cabaret”. Less than a year later, Jerry Lewis' circuit was in free fall heading toward bankruptcy and Zammito closed the Shippensburg cinema on April 4, 1973 citing lack of business. The Waynesboro location closed soon thereafter.

On July 13, 1973, a new operator, Cinestage Group Inc. of Milton, took on the location and changed its name to the Manor Theatre. That also was a failure. It appears to have gone out of business March 3, 1974 with the film, “The Seven-Ups” starring Roy Scheider. The theatre was retrofitted for the Valley Bank and Trust and was still recognizable as a former Jerry Lewis Cinema even in the 2020’s.
