Paramount Theatre

This 1928 movie palace is located in the heart of downtown Burlington. It was opened as the Grand Theatre and was renamed Paramount Theatre in 1929. It was remodelled in the 1940’s to the plans of architect Erle G. Stillwell.

In 1998 it enjoyed a complete restoration/renovation sponsored by the City of Burlington and the Alamance County Arts Council. It reopened on February 18, 1998, and currently hosts a wide variety of events including plays, musicals, concerts, gospel performances, business and community meetings, travelogues, and classic movies.

I have seen two shows at this Venue. It has been lovingly restored and it is a very impressive job done on it. I liked it so well that my partner and I are presenting concerts there. Its just such a wonderful little place.

This 1940 ad touts the grand opening, which may have been a
re-opening if the theater opened in 1928:

The Paramount, Carolina, and Alamance were owned by North Carolina Theatres, Inc. per ad in the 1940 “Doe Wah Jack”, Burlington High School annual.

I bet at one time it might have been an ABC THEATRE or Plitt Theatre?

Another theater existed in Burlington that was owned by the Qualls family. The State Theater, located on Andrews Street, opened in 1939. A short article in the Burlington Times News is attached, along with a link. http://timesnews125.com/history/19390307.php
